Ginger adds a bright kick to this creamy strawberry and banana smoothie.

Makes 1 large (about 16-ounce) or 2 small (about 8-ounce) smoothies.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup soy or skim milk
  • 1 banana, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 6 fresh or frozen strawberries, rinsed and hulled if fresh
  • 1-inch knob (about 1 teaspoon) fresh ginger, peeled
  • 1 teaspoon agave nectar, turbinado sugar, or honey (optional)
  • 4 ice cubes

Preparation:

Place all ingredients except ice cubes into a blender. Puree until smooth. (The smoothie will seem very thick until the ice is added.)

Add the ice cubes, and pulse or puree until the ice is crushed and the smoothie is well-blended. Pour into glasses, and enjoy!
