Forget that jellied canned stuff. Real cranberry sauce is so easy to make, and so healthy, too -- cranberries are packed with antioxidants and other compounds that may help protect against heart disease and certain cancers. They also contain tannic compounds called proanthocyanidins, which inhibit the ability of certain bacteria to adhere in the body. Studies indicate that this means cranberries may help prevent things like ulcers, gum disease, and various infections.

Cranberry-Blueberry Sauce With Crystallized Ginger is as delicious spread atop sharp cheddar toasts as it is alongside turkey. The possibilities are endless, really. The sauce is easily adapted too -- try dried apricots or cherries in place of the blueberries, for instance. Have a favorite serving suggestion? Discuss it in my forum.
